Celebrate Black History Month
"We must never forget that Black History is American History. The achievements of African Americans have contributed to our nation's greatness."
– U.S. Representative Yvette Clarke of New York
In celebration of Black History Month, we honor the achievements of African Americans and the many contributions of Black people to our country and community.
WATCH CDC celebrates Black History Month by highlighting some extraordinary local heroes and recognizing the struggles, talent, creativity, wisdom, and accomplishments of Black Americans.
Waltham Civil Rights Leader: Virginia Monroe

Virginia dedicated her life to community engagement by working closely with WATCH CDC and the Waltham Black Fund Foundation. She was a fierce activist who cared deeply about affordable housing, prison reform, and the Black Lives Matter movement in Waltham. Virginia, who passed away in 2021, was a force and she shared her light by mentoring young activists to care for the community the way she did.
We miss you Ginny - Thank you for shining your bright light on our community!
